Kayode Eso
Chief Kayode Eso, CON, CFR (born September 18, 1925 - November 16, 2012) was a
Nigerian prominent Jurist
and former Justice of the Supreme Court of
Nigeria.[1] [2] [3]
Early life
Justice Kayode Eso was born on
September 18, 1925 at Ilesa,
a city in Osun State, southwestern Nigeria.[4]
He attended Trinity College,
Dublin where he obtained a bachelor's and
master's degrees in Law
with a specialization in Legal science in 1953 and 1956 respectively.[5]
Law career
On March 1965, he became the acting
Judge of the High Court of Western Nigeria and few years later, he was
appointed to the bench of the Court of Appeal Western Nigeria as Justice.[6]
On January 1978, he was appointed, Chief Judge of the Oyo State
Judiciary, a position he held till September 1990, when he was appointed to the
bench of the Supreme Court of
Nigeria.[7] Professor Yemi Akinseye George, SAN and the late professor J. F. Ade Ajayi book titled The Making of A Judge narrates the
chronological episodes in contemporary history of Kayode Eso's judicial

He is one of the 8 panels of judges
at the Supreme Court of
Nigeria that presided over the Awolowo v. Shagari
case in which Chief Obafemi Awolowo's
petition challenged the declaration of Shehu Shagari as the president elect of the August 11, 1979 presidential
election.[12] [13] The court ruled that " Sheu Shagari won
two-third of the total votes cast, having polled a total votes of 16.8 millions
with 11.9 millions votes ahead of Obafemi Awolowo who polled a total votes of
4.9 millions.[14]
